Ive notied all sorts of maths interfering into my daily life, the X and Y can be used from shopping for clothes to days out. If you use maths smartly and look around its every where. Hope this helps. I think its interesting that one thing can be used from measuring the size of a galaxy to how much you spend on clothes.
I may be 8 years late but English obviously does focus on grammar, spelling, punctuation and all that lovely stuff, but studying poetry, novels and plays etc help us to appreciate texts and give us a more complex rage of vocabulary. In my opinion having a wide range of vocabulary can help with so many things! In my opinion, unless you want to become a maths teacher after you leave school, maths should be an optional subject as well.
Obviously you had to do it on primary school, where you learned all the things that you actually will need in life. Adding, dividing, multiplying, subtracting, percentages, fractions, etc.
I also dislike Maths, but a lot of it is useful. I love maths.. Listen kids, do all your studying and subjects. I failed maths for the LC last year…i had a wee cry and then went out and got twisted!!! The reason you get more points for the higher level paper than you do for the ordinary level paper is because, in most subjects, the higher level is a harder and more complex paper.
And also, people are generally to lazy to bother aiming high nowadays. And then, when it comes down to the test, they think they deserve more points for getting a C2 in ordinary level than a person who got a D1 in higher level. The person doing higher level deserves more points because they went for the harder paper. The above comment is not true. I was just wondering if you do fail maths what can you do other than repeat?
Because the course is changing next year i will have to do another two years if i wanted to repeat. I do higher maths now and the LC is in 3 weeks im just worried it will go bad on the day of the exam and i dont want to have to do an extra 2 years just to repeat one subject. I hated maths in higher level in 5 th so i decided to do pass I love it so much that I could sit down and study it all night!! What kind of remark is that?
Most people who hate school, hate it because of the fact that you do not learn anything. Real learning is completely different to the Leaving Certificate. I suggest that whoever wrote that should go and educate themself properly. Maths is impossible and im great at physics and Tech graph. Or is it just your best 6 subjects? Please let it be just your best six, otherwise im stuffed!!
I never really found maths to be a horrible subject. More than 3, students have failed their Leaving Cert maths papers, effectively locking them out of many third-level courses which require a pass as a basic entry requirement. The bulk of those who failed to secure a pass grade sat the ordinary-level paper where the failure rate was just under 10 per cent. The proportion who failed the higher-level paper, by contrast, was just under 2 per cent.
While many ordinary-level students might have performed better in foundation-level maths, teachers say some schools have ceased to offer this subject due to resource constraints and a growth in numbers taking higher-level exams.
This has reduced the fear of failure on the part of many who might previously have sat the ordinary-level paper. The gamble of taking on the higher-level paper has paid off for most students with a large majority securing honours grades and remarkably low failure rates. Overall, some 57, students are set to receive their results on Wednesday. Students can collect their results from their schools from 9am or online by visiting the State Examinations Commission websitefrom midday.
Those who applied for college will not know whether they have secured their first-choice places until next Monday when offers through the CAO are made. A small number of students have achieved stellar results, with seven students securing top grades H1s or per cent across eight subjects.
A further 53 students secured H1s in seven subjects, while achieved H1s in six subjects. These numbers are broadly similar to last year.
Students who may be disappointed with their results have been urged not to panic and to take time to consider options available to them. Minister for Education Richard Bruton , who congratulated students on their results, said there were plenty of opportunities for all students regardless of how they performed. This ensures that a similar proportion of students achieve a similar proportion of grades year-on-year.
It is the first year for politics and society. More than students sat the exam across more than 40 schools. While the maths failure rate at ordinary level is a source of concern, policymakers will be pleased at the record high in the numbers opting for higher-level maths. The Government is keen to plug skills gaps in so-called Stem subjects and wants to increase the pipeline of potential graduates. Almost a third of students sat the higher paper this year, a near-doubling of the numbers since 25 bonus points were introduced for those who score more than 40 per cent.
More than 90 per cent of those who sat higher maths were eligible for bonus points. However, academics in higher education have expressed concern over the basic skills of Leaving Cert maths students who are passing the higher-level paper but struggling to cope at third level.
If students have achieved the points for the course in the institute you sat the Maths exam in you will be considered for a place on the course in later CAO Round offers. You could view your Maths script and appeal the grade. If your grade does not improve then you may have to repeat your Maths Leaving Cert. This would involve studying Maths either alone, with the assistance of a tutor, with the assistance of grinds, or attend a Maths class. You can reapply through the CAO again next year using the points you achieved in the Leaving Cert and if you are successful in your Maths exam you can use the Maths result from your Leaving Cert to meet the Maths entry requirement.
Provided you have passed 5 subjects in your Leaving Cert you could consider applying for a place on a PLC course to prepare you for your college course. You are commenting using your WordPress.
